Studying Makes Me Rich - Chapter 3

Zhou Xiu walked into the office and found her class teacher. "I don't know how to solve a math problem. Do you have time to help me?" she asked.

Mr. Huang taught math for Class 24. Although teaching rocket and Wen Na classes came with higher benefits, it was not as easy and worry-free as ordinary classes. He had never moved from his position and had been teaching ordinary classes for over ten years.

He turned off the stock he was browsing with a lack of interest and asked, "What question do you want to ask?"

Zhou Xiu pointed to the last question.

"You don't need to study this question. It's useless to write it. Do you have anything else?" Mr. Huang's wandering eyes moved back to the stock on the webpage.

He didn't think the students in Class 24 had much ability. They played games and slept in class every day. What's funny is that there was a girl in the class who only knew how to do makeup.

"It's useless? Why?" Zhou Xiu asked.

She couldn't ask about the last question, so she switched to a geometry question.

Mr. Huang looked at the test paper. This was a difficult question deliberately given by the math group leader, far beyond the level of Class 24. It wasn't that he looked down on Class 24; in fact, Class 24 was just a place where a group of rich second-generation students gathered to waste time.

He frowned and said, "Do you know the properties of harmonic quadrilaterals? Recite it to me."

Zhou Xiu shook her head.

Mr. Huang handed her a pencil. "Find the internal error point for me."

Zhou Xiu shook her head again.

Asking three times and getting no answer, Mr. Huang put away his gentle attitude and got angry. "You don't listen carefully in class and pretend to be diligent after class. You are wasting my valuable time as a teacher. Go back and copy the theorem 100 times and hand it to me!"

Zhou Xiu had never been exposed to this knowledge because of the poor educational resources in the countryside. She felt embarrassed by the teacher's contemptuous eyes and the indifference in his eyes.

"Teacher... I..."

"Are you still finding excuses for your mistakes?"

Zhou Xiu said seriously, "I'm not."

She clenched her fist inside her sleeve and walked out of the office with the test paper.

"Young lady, if you want to change how others view you and make the world recognize you, you must first change yourself."

Zhou Xiu stopped at the door of the office and listened to the system's words.

"Perseverance is key. A rotting log is not broken by a single strike, but by continuous beating. With perseverance, even stones can be carved. Most people have average talents, but they can often make up for it through hard work. Are you going to give up?"

Zhou Xiu clenched the test paper and turned back into the office.

She walked towards a relaxed male teacher in the corner of the office and boldly handed him the test paper. "Hello, teacher. I don't know how to solve a few questions. Can you teach me?"

"Oh, let me take a look?"

The middle-aged teacher seemed a little surprised, but quickly went straight to the topic and started to explain the problem to Zhou Xiu.

It seemed that he didn't care if she was his student or not. Huang, the teacher who taught Class 24 mathematics, had opened his mouth, but quickly closed it.

Half an hour later, Zhou Xiu stumbled through her confusion. She spent ten minutes organizing her thoughts and then filled out the test paper on the neighbouring desk.

When the test was finished, the system did not issue a completion task sound. Zhou Xiu tightened her grip on the pen, took a deep breath, and boldly asked the amiable old teacher, "Can you help me correct my paper?"

Not only was the old teacher surprised, but so was Huang, who was both angry and resentful. He believed that this poor student was deliberately trying to show him up. Otherwise, why would she choose the teacher with the most eccentric temperament in the grade group?

The old teacher asked, "Are the scores important?"

Of course, they are. It was about whether Zhou Xiu would walk or take the bus home tonight. She knew she couldn't count on Huang, who was obsessed with stocks, to grade her test paper.

The old teacher didn't hesitate for long and picked up the red pen to grade Zhou Xiu's paper quickly. The test paper was neither too much nor too little, exactly eighty points.

As the bright red eighty fell, at that moment, the system made a sound indicating that the task was completed, and Zhou Xiu felt that there was no music in the world that was more beautiful than that.

Di--Mr. Wang's math test paper (32A) has achieved 80% accuracy. Please collect a 5 RMB reward.

Zhou Xiu put her hand in her pocket and felt it. She touched a thin piece of paper. She smiled to herself and said, "Thank you, teacher." ... After Zhou Xiu left, Huang complained to the old teacher, "That student is too immature. Did she waste a lot of your time? This kind of student is too difficult to teach. She even forgets the theorem that she just learned a few days ago."

Huang didn't even know that Zhou Xiu had been inserted into the class today. The old teacher calmly said, "How could that be? Although her foundation is a bit weak, her logic is still okay. She got 80 points on the test paper." 80 points?

The smile on Huang's mouth suddenly froze. The A paper was always given to the students in the Rocket and Wen Na classes. Especially the last few finale questions were completely played by the team leader and occasionally used to select competition students.

Although Zhou Xiu took advantage of asking the teacher about the solution to the big problem. But that doesn't mean she can do all the previous questions.

"Well, then you must have made the test paper easier this time. Xi Shaoyuan from Mr. Wang's class will probably get a perfect score just by scribbling a few words." Huang said with a smirk.

The old teacher said coldly, "As for him, he got zero."

During the break time. Although Zhou Xiu earned back the fare to the Xi family by speculating on the exam, she still spent some time digesting the knowledge points of these big questions. She wrote two full pages of notes.

Her desk mate, Hua Xu, woke up and saw Zhou Xiu studying, and asked with a yawn, "You have such good grades, why didn't you go to the Rocket class?"

Her judgment was simple and rude. She thought that since Zhou Xiu could come to Yu De to study despite her difficult family situation, she must be a top student.

Zhou Xiu honestly corrected her, "My grades are average."

Hua Xu sneered, "Hmph, the study tyrant is so hypocritical."

After school, Zhou Xiu took the subway and bus back to the Xi family and when she got home, there was a call from her family.

Auntie Xi looked at her cooly and informed her, "Xiu Xiu, your family called you."

As soon as she picked up the phone, a cold and hard voice started talking, scaring Zhou Xiu. "Zhao Di, you've fallen into a fortunate situation now, and your blessings are too many to count. I heard that the Xi family is very wealthy, so don't just focus on studying--"

Zhou Xiu hung on to the phone but didn't listen to the greedy and nagging voice anymore. This same sharp voice had forced her to drop out of school not long ago, saying, "What's the use of a girl reading so many books? In the end, she still must marry into someone else's family!"

In her dreams, Zhou Xiu's family repeatedly emphasized to "Zhou Xiu" that she should get along well with the Xi family, especially Xi Shaoyuan. "Xiu, you must cling to that young master of the Xi family. Follow him, and you'll become rich for life."

Xi Shaoyuan's driver had already returned, and now he had just come back from his run when he saw Zhou Xiu on the phone. This rural girl was holding the receiver with a cold and impatient expression, not at all interested in listening to her family's phone call. This was very different from trying to please and flatter the Xi family.

Xi Shaoyuan's gaze lingered on her for a moment.

Zhou Xiu listened to her family's advice on how to please Xi Shaoyuan, and when she looked up, she saw his cold and indifferent eyes. She was somewhat relieved that Xi Shaoyuan didn't understand her grandmother's dialect; otherwise, she would have wanted to find a hole to hide in.

Zhou Xiu hung up the phone and felt alert. She realized that she should listen less to these brainwashing phone calls in the future. Why not just focus on studying? She wouldn't be like "Zhou Xiu," so naive. She could get rich through her studies; why should she rely on men?

"Well said."

"Congratulations on establishing a correct worldview, young lady."

In the kitchen, the Xi family's auntie was cleaning up and muttering, "Zhou Xiu's family is very strange. They're asking around about us--not just about Madam, but also about the young master. They're almost desperate to find out."

It was clear that they weren't that concerned about their own child; their greedy expressions couldn't be hidden.

Auntie Niu was half a fellow villager with Zhou Xiu, and she could understand some of Zhou Xiu's dialect. She had answered Zhou Xiu's family's phone call just now.

Auntie Niu was worried about this sudden addition of a country girl.

"She's seen the riches now, and I'm afraid she won't leave even if we beat her." The butler smiled and said politely, "If it's so easy to get close to the young master, then he wouldn't be the young master anymore."

"I hope the young master can be more cheerful. Having one more person in the house will bring more life to it. Don't you think so? I think Madam probably feels the same way," said Auntie Niu, but suddenly fell silent.

The young master had grown up under their watchful eyes, and it was pitiful to think about it. His parents had divorced when he was five, and he had grown up with his mother. Madam Xi didn't seem to care much about him either, and their mother-son relationship was strange. Sometimes she was so busy that she almost forgot she had a son.

The butler said, "If you're really worried, we can give her a hint."

But there was no need to do that.

Zhou Xiu had hung up the phone early, and when she wanted to get some water to drink, she heard this conversation. It turned out that only Madam Xi was oblivious, while the others were already suspicious.

Zhou Xiu swallowed her saliva and suppressed her desire to drink water, quietly leaving the kitchen and returning to her room to do homework.

System, I want to preview my lessons!

That’s the way to go, young lady!

When she was in the countryside, Zhou Xiu had already studied a third of the math curriculum. Math was her best subject, and during the days she was forced to drop out, she often studied her textbooks in her free time.

Zhou Xiu finished her regular homework for tomorrow.

At the same time, she heard a "ding" in her mind, Daily homework accuracy rate reaches 90%, and you receive a reward of 15 RMB.

Zhou Xiu touched her pocket and found two banknotes lying inside. She found a box and carefully put them away.

After finishing her homework, dinner time quickly arrived.
